MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — Consortium Book Sales & Distribution, an Ingram brand, announces four new publishers for the Fall 2017 season: Catalyst Press, Cinestate, Conundrum Press and Scribe Publications. All presses begin distribution with Consortium on June 1, 2017.

Catalyst Press is an independent press that was founded this year by Jessica Powers. Powers seeks to publish books that will spark or provide a catalyst for change in the world through the lens of the African or indigenous experience. Story Press Africa, Catalyst’s children’s and graphic novel imprint in collaboration with Jive Media Africa,prides itself on publishing stories by Africans about Africa that revisit history in authentic, challenging, and frequently controversial ways.
Among Catalyst’s lead Fall titles is the YA graphic novel Shaka Rising, a retelling of the legendary historical African warrior prince; and Dark Traces by Martin Steyn, a Jan Magson mystery set in Cape Town.
Cinestate is an entertainment company founded by renowned film producer Dallas Sonnier (Bone Tomahawk, Bad Milo) and award-winning publisher, Will Evans of Deep Vellum Publishing. Cinestate believes that a bold, authentic story can and will flourish across films, books and audio.
Lead forthcoming titles include Hug Chickenpenny: The Panegyric of an Anomalous Child byS. Craig Zahler that is a coming of age horror story,and Robert Ashcroft’s The Megarothke,adebut SciFi/horror novel described as“Blade Runner meets Westworld via Resident Evil”that explores humanity's darkest desire for transcendence.
Cinestate’s film division will initially focus on genre-based films with budgets in the $10 million and under range. Its first film project, Brawl in Cell Block 99, written and directed by S. Craig Zahler, starring Vince Vaughn, Don Johnson, and Jennifer Carpenter, is scheduled for a Fall 2017 release.
Conundrum Press was founded by Andy Brown in 1996 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Being an anglophone press in a francophone city meant maintaining an outsider perspective and strong DIY aesthetic. For the first decade, they focused on chapbooks, short stories, novels, comics and zine collections. However, in the next decade, the press moved to Nova Scotia and focused its mandate on exclusively literary graphic novels. Conundrum is the home of many award-winning artists, such as Shary Boyle, Jillian Tamaki, Joe Ollmann, Michel Rabagliati, David Collier, Meags Fitzgerald, Dakota McFadzean, Nina Bunjevac, and many more. As The Comics Journal confirms: “Andy Brown’s Conundrum Press has quietly become a major force in altcomics publishing.”
Scribe Publications began in 1976 as the founder, Henry Rosenbloom, looked to publish "serious nonfiction". Scribe has turned into a multi-award-winning company with global offices that are committed to publishing books that matter. It publishes over 65 titles annually in Australia, over 40 in the United Kingdom and over 40 in the United States. Their titles span fiction and nonfiction, with particular emphasis on politics and current affairs, biography, history, science and health. Scribe's first list with Consortium will include a new biography of Paul Robeson by Jeff Sparrow called No Way But This: In Search of Paul Robeson and Hans Fallada's Nightmare in Berlin, a companion novel to his bestselling Every Man Dies Alone, in English for the first time.
