It is that time of year again! We are preparing for the 2nd annual indie authors celebration, and you should be too. For the second year in a row, libraries across North America will be hosting local events in celebration of indie authors. Indie Author Day brings more visibility to the significant growth of the self-publishing industry, independent authors, and to libraries as hubs for community engagement. We are looking forward to libraries and authors connecting locally and globally.
What is Indie Author Day?
On October 14, 2017, libraries will welcome local indie authors to participate in community-based activities like author panels, book readings and signings, writing workshops, author open mics, Q&A sessions, networking, and much more. Similar to last year's event, there will be on demand webinar workshops available for the indie community that showcases the relationship between self-publishers and libraries.
Why Should I Participate as a Library?
Libraries are building blocks of the community, so you must leverage your author events. Indie Author Day provides the opportunity for libraries to receive guidance on how to host an event, develop a marketing strategy, and assistance on discovering local authors to participate in author events and more! If you check out the Indie Author Day’s website, you can find tips for possible programming to help create your event:
- An author panel featuring traditional, hybrid, and self-published authors from the community
- Presentations from local indie authors about writing, marketing, and more
- Author readings and open mics, featuring short segments of each author's works
- Writing workshops
- Presentations and workshops to inform the writing community about tools available for them to use through the library
You don’t want to miss out! Join our fellow libraries and host an event today by registering here.
Why Should I Participate as an Indie Author?
Indie Author Day is a fantastic opportunity to increase your title discoverability, build a local community relationship, form business partnerships, and get to know readers through this networking event. As an author, it is vital to connect with fellow authors in the writing community, shop at their local bookstores, and support local libraries.
We hope you’ll participate in Indie Author Day as it celebrates the collaboration of the library and indie communities.
