To further support college stores, VitalSource Intends to Acquire Verba

Since our founding more than 20 years ago, VitalSource has been committed to supporting higher education and to providing students with more affordable and accessible learning materials. We feel the campus stores across the globe share these values and are best positioned to manage content delivery for their institution.

For these reasons, we are excited to announce that VitalSource intends to acquireVerba Software. Verba was founded in 2008 to tackle course material affordability through radical transparency through collaborating with independent campus stores. With the similarities in philosophies and missions of the two companies, this proposed acquisition would deepen our collaboration with college stores to more effectively and efficiently deliver the best in affordable digital content at the time when students need it most.

In a short time, Verba has grown into a recognized industry leader for their support of the independent college store market. VitalSource’s proposed acquisition of Verba would add to our offerings in inclusive access, analytics, and white-label ecommerce, while bringing strengths in adoptions management and pricing transparency.

VitalSource currently powers inclusive-access programs – or course-fee models – at 1,250 higher education institutions worldwide to ensure students have their required course materials on day one of classes. We have existing integrations with Verba solutions at a number of those schools. So this acquisition would serve to expand the scope of work we have already started together and couple VitalSource’s collection of 1 million titles in our catalog with Verba’s best-in-class software solutions for independent bookstores.
