Allows for one-click access and analytic tools to drive better outcomes and engagement for students and faculty

DAVENPORT, IOWA and NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – Kaplan University, a leader in higher education innovation, today announced that it has selected VitalSource Technologies, Inc., Ingram Content Group’s leading e-textbook solution and its VitalSource Bookshelf® platform to support the University’s online learning programs nationwide.

“We spoke with many e-textbook providers as we explored new options to support our dynamic online learning environment," said Kaplan University Provost Dr. Betty Vandenbosch. "VitalSource's institutional e-book delivery experience, publisher relationships, ease of integration and flexible e-textbook platform serves our faculty and students very well."

Using the VitalSource Bookshelf platform, students and faculty have one-click access to e-textbooks within their course environment with options to download content and use it online and offline on a variety of device types including Mac®, Windows®, iPad®, Kindle Fire® and Android™. Regardless of the content option used, all work, including notes, highlights and annotations, will automatically sync across devices.

Kaplan University and its instructors will also benefit from the platform’s full suite of accessibility features and rich analytic tools, which allow faculty to view individual and aggregate class engagement data and use it to manage successful learning outcomes.

"Kaplan University was looking for a comprehensive e-textbook solution to meet the needs of their faculty and students across a spectrum of undergraduate, graduate and continuing professional education programs," said Kent Freeman, Chief Operating Officer, VitalSource Technologies, Inc. "We are pleased that our VitalSource Bookshelf platform has a role in advancing and enhancing learning for students and educators throughout Kaplan University."

After an exhaustive user needs analysis and year-long pilot, VitalSource was ultimately selected to support the needs of Kaplan based on results of the study, which evaluated factors such as user satisfaction, successful student outcomes, a fully-integrated support structure including helpdesk support and a solid future technology roadmap.

Vandenbosch added, "The VitalSource Bookshelf platform exceeded our expectations and excelled in our pilot program.”

The VitalSource Bookshelf platform is the most used e-textbook delivery platform in higher education with more than 4 million users across 6,000 campuses around the world. It uses the latest technology to enhance the learning experience through e-textbooks and digital education. Content from more than 500 of the world’s top academic publishers is accessible to VitalSource Bookshelf users anytime, anywhere, and on a variety of operating systems and devices.
