The Screen Time of Graphic Novels

Over the past twenty years, graphic novels have become a steadily increasing source for Hollywood.

The Marvel-Verse and DC Worlds have enjoyed a successful run on both the big screen and the streaming platforms. Each year brings more of their characters rushing across the screen to destroy and/or save the common man. In a bit of a sling-shot effect, the movies have brought more fans to the graphic novel world than ever before. But there are more than just your typical Marvel and DC characters appearing on the silver screen. Below are some series that might interest your patrons in graphic novel format.

  • The Boys- Garth Ennis & Darick Robertson

In a world where superheroes exist, not all are goodness and light. Fame and corruption often create disaster with gruesome results. Who will hold the heroes accountable?

  • Y: The Last Man- Brian K. Vaughan & Pia Guerra

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where all living mammals with a Y chromosome have died, Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand are anomalies. Wanting to discover why he survived and if there is a way to save humankind, the adventures begin!

  • Jupiter’s Legacy- Mark Millar & Frank Quitely

In this series, superheroes and their offspring disagree on almost everything. The generational conflict spins into sociopolitical and economic concerns, leading to the end of capitalism- among other things.

  • Locke & Key- Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriguez

Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Horror combine to create this deliciously dark world of portals, demons, and magic centered on the Keyhouse.

  • Paper Girls- Brian K. Vaughan & Cliff Chiang

A group of paper delivery girls stumble upon a time machine after a scuffle over a stolen walkie-talkie. Should future time travelers change past events? Chaos and time travel shenanigans ensue.

  • The Umbrella Academy- Gerard Way & Gabriel Ba

A dysfunctional family of superheroes dealing with their own personal issues while trying to save the world from any number of unspecified threats (including themselves). What time will they screw up next?
