MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — Consortium®, an Ingram Publisher Services LLC brand, announces five new publishers for the Spring 2018 season: Dottir Press, Floris Books, Hazy Dell Press, New Europe Books, and World Editions. All presses begin distribution with Consortium on June 1, 2018.
“We are delighted to welcome five engaging new publishers that complement our list of award-winning presses,” said Julie Schaper, Vice President, Ingram Publisher Services–Consortium.
Dottir Press is a New York City-based feminist publisher that works to cover history and present culture through storytelling in all forms and for all ages. Founder Jennifer Baumgardner is an award-winning activist, journalist and co-founder of the speaker's bureau Soapbox Inc. (one of the largest feminist speakers’ bureaus in the world) and the co-creator of Feminist Camp. Dottir focuses on children's books that speak with integrity and humor to the rich, complex reality of children's lives; publishing critical feminist theory designed for the classroom as well as the armchair intellectual; and creating books that heal our fractured culture and connect communities. New titles include children’s books Not My Idea by Anastasia Higginbotham, a book about whiteness and racism, the latest in the critically-acclaimed Ordinary Terrible Things Series, and The Nightlife of Jacuzzi Gasket by 2018 Whiting Award Winner Brontez Purnell.
Floris Books is an independent British publisher of beautiful children’s books from across the world that provide a unique window into the world, offering them the opportunity to learn, imagine and be inspired. Their Kelpies imprint publishes children’s books (from board books to YA) with a Scottish twist often inspired by rich history and vivid folklore. Their nonfiction list includes books on holistic gardening methods, inspiring philosophy and spirituality, health, and well-being, alternative education, and parenting. In 2016, Floris was recognized as the Scottish Publisher of the Year. New children’s titles include the picture book The House of Lost and Found by Martin Widmark and Emilia Dziubak and perennial seller The North American Maria Thun Biodynamic Almanac 2019 by Mattias Thun, the 57th edition of the organic planting calendar.
Hazy Dell Press, headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, is committed to stories and characters that promote empathy, diversity and imagination. Publications include Monster ABC—a quirky, hilarious, and globe-spanning alphabet board book, along with Goodnight Krampus, Get Dressed, Sasquatch!, Hush Now, Banshee!, and Don’t Eat Me Chupacabra! / ¡No Me Comas, Chupacabra!. Hazy Dell Press is committed to introducing the world to imagination-driven board books and picture books that make story time a little quirkier and a lot more fun for children and adults alike.
New Europe Books, based in Williamstown, Mass., publishes trade fiction and nonfiction from Europe, both in translation and in original English editions. Its founder and publisher, Paul Olchváry, is a prominent translator of Hungarian literature. New Europe Books offers books that speak to global concerns, expand cross-cultural understanding and explore history in new ways. Titles for fall 2018 include Notes From Cyberground: Trumpland and My Old Soviet Feeling by Mikhail Iossel, a frequent contributor to The New Yorker, and The Most Beautiful Night of the Soul by Sándor Jászberényi, a collection of short stories set in the contemporary Middle East.
World Editions, with offices in Amsterdam, London and New York, is an independent publisher focused on bringing translated international literature to a global readership. Launching with 10 titles in the fall, the novels and memoirs are designed in a distinctive and attractive format with round corners, ideal for book lovers seeking inspiring new additions to their collections and readers looking to expand their horizons globally. Their lead title is Always Another Country by Sisonke Msimang, whose TED Talk, “If a story moves you, act on it” has been viewed more than 1 million times. The team behind World Editions includes high-profile Publishing Director Judith Uyterlinde, who reads six languages and has served as publisher at European literary publishing houses, Karin Wessel, previously of Europa Editions and known for the global success of authors like Elena Ferrante, and US Director Christine Swedowsky, most recently Marketing Director at Penguin Random House.
